Backlighting

This week’s blog ring topic is “Backlighting,” with subjects lit from behind, often resulting in images with overexposed areas and dark shadows. “This backlit image of Louis is shot with the only light (the sun) behind him. I used a reflector to direct light back into his eyes, and the flare is caused by the sun shining on the lens (Canon 2.8 70-200.) The overexposed areas around Louis, as well as on the hot tub cover he was sitting on are common with backlit photography.

This lovely backlit cat wandered into a French garden while I was photographing flowers in the early morning. I added a little flash to bring out the beautiful blue eyes.

.

Next up is Jessica Wasik at Bark and Gold Photography in Pittsburg. Keep going around the blog ring until you see everyone’s backlit images.

That sun flare is insane! You’ve got the perfect rim of light going on there, too!ReplyCancel
